High level of poverty as well as heightened political landscape in the country has put to hold the celebrations of 31st anniversary of political doyen Pius Masinde Muliro as his family members decried how the late has not been celebrated well by the nation.
Speaking at the home of the late in Sibanga village, Cherangany
Sub County of Trans Nzoia County, his son Mwambu Muliro described the heightened political tensions as well as high cost of living as contributory factors that have led the family to postpone anniversary celebrations of their father.
Mwambu noted that at this time especially in the country, political temperature was not good as most politicians would have taken advantage of an already polarized situation to preach politics of hate that would have divided citizens further as well as the high cost of goods that has made the family unable to hold the celebrations.
“At this time, you know there’s push and pull between the opposition and the government concerning ideological differences that has led to opposition supporters hold demonstrations in the country in which several were shot by police, we didn’t want to hold celebrations that would have been used as an avenue by politicians to spread divisions amongst people,” claimed Mwambu.
Mwambu has however appealed to Western leaders especially Luhya leaders to put the interests of its citizens at heart and uplift their living standards by alleviating poverty.

He lashed at leaders who normally use the name of their father to ascend to power only to forsake the voters that put them into office stating that their father has not been celebrated well the way he deserves as other communities are celebrating their heroes.
The deceased’s son explained how his father worked hard to provide for the family as well as worked for the nation as a selfless servant who wanted to better the lives of his citizens without favor as he wanted the best for everyone and the nation at large.
He blamed the nation and Western leaders over what he claimed were not heeding to the challenges the region was facing as most of them are only engaged in their own businesses and not working towards improving the lives of citizens decrying the high level of poverty that has taken toll amongst locals in the region.
“Our leaders are obsessed with power of money and greed and not following the footsteps of our father who promoted unity and diversity amongst tribes in the region,” he asserted
He blamed leaders especially in opposition who are swayed by Government side and forget their noble obligation of putting the government on toes, blaming the Government for interfering with opposition over what he said ‘buying’ of opposition MPs to its side making opposition a toothless dog.
He has however advised opposition MPs in the assembly to play their role in the assembly by pointing at the ills in the Government and avoid the pressure that the Government has been chasing them to shift to their side and fail to perform their oversight role.
