Politics took center stage during the burial of politician Jennifer Masis at Taito area in Cherangany sub-county, when leaders from Jubilee and CORD parties tried to out do each other during the function which was attended by thousands of mourners drawn from various parts of the country.
Masis, who was born in 1970 in Mt. Elgon sub-county in Bungoma, died after a long illness, and even though she sought medical help from various hospitals, she wasn’t fully healed.

At the burial function, CORD leaders led by Kalozo Musyoka , Johnston Muthama and Moses wetangula decried of the high level of corruption that has progressively established itself in the country, and they blamed the leadership of president Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto.
Machakos County governor who is also the chief whip in the senate Johnstone Muthama said corruption in the country has reached a toll order where most funds have landed in the hands of few individuals who have been allocated money through corrupt means.
He blamed the president for not paying teachers well despite several protests by teachers on demanding for a salary increment. He also pointed out the rampant corruption in the police force that has been influenced by poor payment and remuneration by the government, that has ultimately resulted in the increase in corruption activities amongst the police.

His sentiments were echoed by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka who blamed the government of rampant corruption that has led to poor infrastructure in the former rift valley and blamed the ruling Jubilee government under president Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto for doing little to improve the lives of citizens.
“I came to Kitale by means of an airplane and when I got off the plane at Eldoret airport and came this way, I noticed the roads are in a deplorable situation and the government has done little to make sure the roads are tarmacked,” said Musyoka.
Wetangula on his part blamed the government for doing little in constructing new roads within the region, saying leaders have been neglecting the region. He said the government has allocated Kshs. 400 billion to the central region of Kenya for the construction of decent roads while it has done little for the Western region, considering the roads are deplorable.
However, Saboti legislator David Lazaro dismissed the allegations and challenged them to show the achievements they had while they were still in government, notably during the Moi and Kibaki eras. “Now they are claiming that roads from the region are in deplorable condition, what did they do while they were serving in the government during the Moi and Kibaki eras, didn’t they see the roads?” posed Lazaro.
The legislator asked residents to avoid voting for the opposition in the coming elections and instead vote for Jubilee. Other leaders present during the burial ceremony were, former MP for Kwanza Dr. Noah Wekesa, maendeleo ya wanawake chairperson for Trans Nzoia county Jane Wekesa, politicians Joel Gezuka, some Trans Nzoia MCAs among others guests.
