The Affirmative Action Fund office in collaboration with the County government of Trans Nzoia will put up a maternity wing at Muthangari hospital in Kiminini constituency to ease congestion witnessed in several hospitals within the sub county especially amongst pregnant mothers.

Speaking during a function in Kiminini market, Trans Nzoia woman representative Janet Nangabo said her office
has realized the need to put up a maternity wing at the hospital following numerous complaints amongst expectant mothers concerning
congestion and poor hygiene in the hospitals within the County.

She said her office was notified of the predicaments that the mothers endure and since Kiminini sub county is the second most populous sub
county after Kitale town, she felt there was a need to put up the maternity wing in the area to help ease congestion.

She, however, appealed to the County government of Trans Nzoia to put up measures in place that will help curb rising cases of drugs
pilferage in the hospitals, noting they are stolen by known people in hospitals and dispensaries, “I’m calling upon the County government of Trans Nzoia to put up mechanisms that will assist in the arrest of drug dealers engaging in corruption especially in the drugs sector. We won’t sit back and watch as drugs meant for poor residents are stolen by some known individuals,” said Nangabo.

Her sentiments come barely one week after a whistle blower from a Kitale hospital detailed how drugs were being siphoned from the
hospitals and find their way to the chemists around the facility with several patients being asked to purchase drugs in the nearby chemists.

Patients have been calling upon the County government to intervene. “We are forced to purchase drugs in the nearby chemists around this
hospital as there were no drugs in the hospital. There are even no gloves for patients,” claimed one patient caretaker.

However, Trans Nzoia County Governor Patrick Khaemba has promised to oversee a robust overhaul of hospitals’ administrators following several accusations leveled against the hospitals.
