Residents of Lwandeti and Chevaywa locations in Matete sub county have been advised to form and register development oriented groups and
participate in various viable and sustainable income generating
activities in order to improve living standards as well as reduce
biting poverty levels in the area.
Addressing participants during the annual general meeting for five social
and development groups, under the umbrella of Mabuye Sensitization
Network (MSN), the organisation’s coordinator, Mr. Kapteka Wambia said it was through organized groups that residents will be able to help spur economic growth and development in the area.
Identifying Matete as one of the worst poverty-hit parts in Western
region, Kapteka, however, noted that such a sorry state of affairs can
be rectified, especially if its residents grouped themselves and
embarked on investing in small scale and diverse income generating
activities such as dairy farming and business activities.
The official emphasized on transparency and accountability, describing
the two as bedrocks for any successful development organization, and
at the same time advised social groups to involve government officers
in the activities.
“For success in whichever economic activity you decide to engage in, I
want to urge group leaders to always be transparent and accountable to
their members as well as incorporating line ministries and agencies
from both national and county governments,” said Kapteka, who lauded
the five groups under MSN for demonstrating effective and efficient
organisation.
His sentiments were echoed by Mabuye Central Area Community Administrator, Mr. Josec Ochieng Kakai, who urged area residents to emulate the five groups and invest in small scale commercial projects.
During meeting, members under the Mabuye Sensitization Network
benefited with hefty dividends accruing from their share contributions
in the organization.
