Farmers from Matulo ward in Webuye West Constituency have lauded the county government of Bungoma for supplying subsidized fertilizer and maize seeds during this planting season.
Led by Gladys Kisaka, they expressed their joy after receiving the fertilizer and maize seeds and said that they will eventually have a good harvest which will go a long way toward curbing hunger and poverty.
“We are very much happy because our governor Kenneth Lusaka has given us fertilizer which will enable us to have a good harvest, and we’ll finally do away with the hunger menace,” said the residents.
Matulo ward administrator Mrs Eunice Simuli urged all farmers who have received the fertilizer to use it instead of selling. She added that those who have benefitted this year will not receive the fertilizer and maize seeds next year so that others too can benefit.
“To all farmers, don’t sell these fertilizer and maize seeds, instead go and plant and have a good harvest. You can then sell the maize and pay school fees for your children and get fertilizer and maize seeds next year,” she said.
This was lauded by Matulo ward manager Reuben Wechule who also urged the county government of Bungoma to increase the number of bags of fertilizer, after he observed that there are many farmers who need the fertilizer. “If it will be possible, I urge the county government of Bungoma to increase the number of bags of fertilizer, since we have many farmers in this ward who need it. We thank the governor for starting this program which will help the county in terms of food security,” said Wechule.
