Matunda Salvation Army mixed day Secondary school in Likuyani sub county overcame emotions of losing their principal during examination period to register a sterling performance in the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.

According to the acting principal Mr.  Francis Musotsi top eight candidates managed grade A- (minus) with a total of 134 candidates scoring minimum university entry points as the school registered a mean 6.75.

Mr. Musotsi thanked the last year’s class of candidates for overcoming many challenges ranging from death of their principal Mr. Gregory Wafula on the 17th April, 2020, disruption of learning by Covid- 19 among other usually associated with day and mixed schools by registering encouraging results compared to boarding schools in the sub county.

“We lost our principal on 17th April, 2020 when examinations were on and it had an emotional impact on our students and it took time to bring them together again and focus on their exams. Also the nine months they were out of school due to the outbreak of Corona Virus also affected our performance since most of the candidates were not revising at home and it really affected their performance,” said Mr. Musotsi.

However the school is priding itself for being the only school from Likuyani Sub County to have the highest number of students who achieved university grades.

According to Mr. Musotsi 134 students out of the 231 who sat their exams in the school scored C+ and above mean grades.
