Women have been urged to engage in agribusiness and farming activities as a way of making ends meet and sustaining themselves from the harsh economic times that are being encountered in the country.
Speaking during the Usemi Wa Kina Mama show on West Fm, wife to Mautuma MCA Charles Anyona, Mrs. Pamela Anyona says that’s the only way boredom and idleness will be curbed amongst women.
As a wife to MCA, Mrs. Anyona says its not easy because she has so much at hand and has to make sure that she keeps busy with her farming activities and her NGO Mama Tony charity movement that helps widows, orphans and vulnerable persons.
She talks of her journey to empowerment and says it takes courage with a lot of energy before achieving anything.
She says before any leadership roles a mother has to be passionate about everything, courageous, hardworking and a good listener to achieve.
Mrs. Anyona says she is a farmer, and also rears chicken both broilers and layers and it needs a lot of concentration to achieve saying this has helped her become a better empowered woman.
She also says society to some extent has failed in empowering women and girl child because of poverty and also lack of essential items.
She says girls are vulnerable to early pregnancies because they are lied to by men who take advantage of their awkward situations and use them thus dumping them after impregnating them.
She also says women to some extent undergo greater challenges because some are married to drunkards who hit them hard and fail to support them in their developments, fail to take care of their families because some go out drinking then get back to demand for food they haven’t provided for.
She urges women to be closer to their children, especially girls who have much to confide in them and what affects them as girls.
Mrs. Anyona says as a way of empowering women in her ward with girls she has perfected in organizing trainings for women who believe they can’t make it, where they teach them on various ways of surviving and making money.
They have helped women and also trained them on how to take care of their brutal or violent spouses by introducing them to self employment, businesses that have helped most to be busy and prosper.
Mrs. Anyona asks women to believe and trust in themselves and discourage those who just sit and depend on their husbands saying that they need to be dependant in case anything happens to their husbands they can survive without struggling.
At the same time she encourages women to go an extra mile and try things they believe are un-achievable and risk on anything they want to try out, stop listening to women who can discourage them into venturing into greater opportunities.
With her Mama Tony charity organization they pay fees for orphans, help widows and also needy people across the County and need a heart to help and not for the faint hearted.
Women need to fight for what they believe in and prove to the world that nothing is impossible.
In the other world, she encourages women who have talents like salonists, sewers, those who can act, sing, and football to utilize their talents and utilize them to the maximum.
She also encourages them to take loans and use them in developmental matters and stop being discouraged that they may be auctioned for fear of payment.
They should also form groups with people of the same interests known to each other and share ideas besides building trust amongst them before they go an extra mile investing and indulging in group loans.
She however thanks her husband who has been her cheerleader in everything and is very supportive. Also pride in telling the world that politically from her ward despite her husband being a Kisii she convinced them and he was voted in together with his good deeds to the people.
