As farmers from Western Kenya are preparing for the planting season, Sango MCA Mulanda Tali has strongly disagreed with the county government on the amount of money that farmers are supposed to pay to get the services of the tractors for ploughing.
The tractors were released by the Bungoma County government to help farmers plough their land in preparation for the planting season at a subsidized price.

For every acre of piece of land a farmer is required to pay Ksh. 2,000 the amount that Mulanda says that is too high for a small scale farmer.
“We met with the governor and told him that we as Likuyani people want tractors fee to be reduced from 2,000 to 1,500 because in this region we normally pay 2,000 for ploughing” he said.
“The lower part of this constituency plough at 4,000 per acre,we cannot compare our lands with those from the lowlands because we are in the settlement schemes,” added Mulanda
Mulanda also said that the main key of the county government purchasing the tractors was to help small scale farmers on the huge amount of money that they usually pay when preparing their pieces of land.
“The tractors will be of no use therefore if we are going to pay the same amount as the one we used to be charged before, the fee needs to be subsidized.” Mulanda reiterated.
Mulanda went on to say that if the price won’t be reduced from 2000 to 1,500 then there is no need of the County government’s tractors insisting that they will continue using their own tractors that they have always been using.
He said he have talked to fellow MCA’’ from the region and they shall hold a meeting to talk over the same matter.
