Class three pupils will be smiling all the way to school after NASMLA report recommended that meals should be provided in schools.
Speaking at the official launch of the report, head of KNEC’s National Assesment Centre, Dr. Assumpta Mutei, said languages and Mathematics were the poorly performed subjects by most pupils countrywide.
She observed that a majority of pupils, especially from Turkana, produced poor results due to a lack of sufficient breakfast.
She said that meals affected school attendance and called upon the government to provide meals in schools.“We want to call upon the government to reverse its earlier ban on meals in school in order to improve performance”, She said.
“We want to call upon the government to reverse its earlier ban on meals in school in order to improve performance,” she said.
She added that sickness accounted for absenteeism by both teachers and pupils which contributed a lot to the poor results.
She further observed that absenteeism was too as result of fear of punishment and bullying. She called upon teachers to try other forms of punishment like dialogue.
She however, recommended that TSC should employ more teachers to curb disparities and provide opportunities for them to enhance their education.
