Media reported lies on Hospital state – Vihiga govt
Journalists from Vihiga were viciously attacked by Senior County Government officials for exposing the deplorable state of the Vihiga Referral Hospital.
Journalist toured the Hospital last week to have a clear picture of the state of the facility and highlighted the same.
The area Member of Parliament Yusuf Chanzu had earlier in the day toured the facility and complained over luck of drugs, and essential facilities in the Hospital.

Patients at the facility are sharing beds, and most of them unattended to, and those bedridden are using basins and containers for short calls instead of bedpans.
The facility has been running without a laundry machine that broke down more than two years ago forcing the casuals at the facility to wash the laundry with their bare hands.
All casuals at the Hospital and other health facilities across the County have not been paid their 4 month salary.
Last week during the ceremony to reward hard working medical staff at the facility attended by area Governor Moses Akaranga, casuals came out and complained of their unpaid 4 month salaries.
The County officials rubbished of the reports in the press terming it propaganda aimed at tarnishing the name of the Hospital.
Lead by the Deputy Governor Caleb Amaswache they blamed the area Mp Yusuf Chanzu for visiting the facility and giving out false information.
“We know he Chanzu has been the area Mp for a very long time before the County Government came in place, he should have allocated funds through the (CDF) kitty to improve the image of the Hospitals instead of blaming the County Government” Amaswache said.
Mr. Khalid Njiraini who is the County Political Strategist accused the media of being biased when reporting over the County Government.

“I want to state categorical here, the media is applying double stands in their reporting, they are very unfair in their reporting on matters concerning the County Government”. Said Njiraini.
Emmanuel Ayodi who is the Medical Superintendent at the facility said the County Government through the ministry of health had procured enough drugs for all the heath facilities in the County.
“We have more than enough drugs in this facility and other health centres across the County and no patient should be sent away to purchase drugs outside these facilities”. He said.
