The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has called upon media house to regulate the content they air.
KFCB urges media houses to observe journalistic standards for professionalism especially in the ongoing demonstrations to disband IEBC.
Chief Executive Officer for the KFCB Ezekiel Mutua said that the journalistic practice and values do not call for display of gory images in coverage.
Addressing journalists in Nairobi, Mutua said that the images are likely to stir harsh reactions among the public and foster violence to disrupt peace.
“Journalists should consider the interest of the Country and promote peace not propagating destructive politics and violence,” said Mutua.
Mutua explained that the constitution guarantees freedom of the media but it should not extend to stirring up violence adding that the media should abide by the code of conduct for journalism in Kenya.
Mutua emphasized that the display of bloody images will also do harm to children by promoting violence and therefore show a wrong agenda to the public.
The Board has said that the ongoing demonstrations by CORD to disband IEBC should not be used to incite the public through horrible images on social media and therefore media should give them a total blackout from coverage.
