The nationwide medical practitioners’ strike that was issued by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union has taken its effect in Nandi as health services in all public hospitals were today paralysed. Patients in Kapsabet Referral Hospital were forced to vacate the facility as there were no doctors or nurses who reported to work today.
Speaking to West Media in Kapsabet Referral Hospital, Medical Superintendent Dr Shadrack Kemei said the strike has taken its effect and that admitted patients have been advised to seek for medication in private hospitals due to the strike that has paralysed health services.
Kemei said that he has talked to the patients concerning the strike and so they are living with the knowledge that there is nobody to offer them services.
All the wards and the maternity wing in Kapsabet Referral Hospital have been closed down until further notice and patients have been forced to seek for services in private facilities.
Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union Samuel Oroko had earlier stated that the government must listen to them, saying that health workers will only resume duties after the full implementation of the CBA.
