The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall this week in different areas of the country including Nairobi and Western region Counties-Kakamega, Bungoma, Vihiga, Busia, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot, Nandi. In an advisory, the Kenya Met Department noted that the the wet weather experienced in different parts of the country is expected to continue with heavy rainfall to be experienced from Tuesday over the North East, Central, Nairobi, South East and Western regions. The rainfall is expected to intensify from Thursday to Sunday.
Residents of the affected areas have been advised to be on the lookout for potential floods, and that flood waters may suddenly appear even in areas where it has not rained and can be deeper and faster than they look. Residents have also been advised to avoid driving through or walking through moving water, while those living in hilly areas in the Western region have been urged to be on high alert.
The heavy rainfall being experienced countrywide is expected to continue for the entire season with occasional breaks, “Flooding and landslide may therefore be triggered by a substantial amount of rainfall in low-lying areas and over hilly grounds. The public is advised to be on the lookout.”
