A middle aged man who is a land lord from Kapsabet in Nandi is being locked up at Kapsabet police cells following the allegations of illegal water connections in his sixteen house units.
The culprit is alleged to have illegally connected water to the house units against the law and was nabbed after a thorough operation was conducted by the Kapsabet Nandi Water and Sanitation Company officials in conjunction with the security apparatus.
Speaking after the crackdown, the director for Kapsabet Nandi Water and Sanitation Company Mr Sammy Keter said the company has been losing a lot of water illegally adding that out of the 80000 cubic metres of water pumped from the source, 50% is running out of taps unaccounted for.
He said that the company has been losing water worthy Kshs 3.5 M monthly and as a company they won’t just sit and watch but bring to book those engaging in this illegal act of water connection citing that the crackdown is meant to identify the illegal consumers of water within Kapsabet and its environs.
Keter revealed that this came in after the annual report of the company signified that it has been losing an estimate of Kshs 40 M per annum to unscrupulous water consumers in the region.
“The crackdown will go on as usual until all the illegal consumers of water in Kapsabet are brought to book and charged in a court of law,” Keter affirmed.
The suspect is still in custody assisting the police in investigations and will be arraigned in court after thorough investigations.
