Property worth millions of shillings was destroyed by an early morning fire at Milo Boys Friends Secondary School in Webuye West sub-county Bungoma County.
The inferno whose cause is yet to be established razed down one dormitory that hosts 162 students but no causality was reported.
Speaking while in the school’s premise the chairman of the board of governors of Milo Boys Secondary School George Sirengo showed his dissatisfaction since this is the second time the same dormitory has been affected.
“At around 9:30 am there was a fire incident that affected one of the dormitories in this school; students tried all they could to contain it. We are assessing damages to be 4 million shillings,” stated Mr. Sirengo.
Confirming the incident Sitikho location chief Emmanuel Wanjala Murokoyo assured parents that students are safe and communication will be done to them to know how to assist those affected.
“I would like to assure parents that boys are safe despite what has happened, let them not be alarmed by this incident, everything is under control. We are going to communicate with parents of the students affected and see how best we can help, therefore I urge them to stay calm as we carry out investigations to ascertain the cause of the fire,” said the chief.
Residents of Sitikho location led by Eric Soita Patroba urged Bungoma County Government through the ministry of special programmes to come to the aid of the school and give a hand of help to the affected students.
“I would like to make a plea to Bungoma County Government through special programmes ministry to buy mattresses, sheets and other belongings if possible, for these affected boys,” appealed Soita.
