President William Ruto has confirmed that the long-awaited reconstruction of the Misikhu-Brigadier Road will soon begin, with the appointment of a new contractor to ensure the completion of the project.
Speaking in Lugulu during the launch of the Last Mile Electrification Project, the President addressed concerns over the delays and poor quality of work by the previous contractor.
Criticizing the earlier contractor for substandard progress that had hindered the development of the road, President Ruto reassured residents that his government has secured sufficient funding to bring the project to fruition. “We have mobilized resources, and there is now sufficient funding for this road. A new contractor will soon be sent to complete the project,” he said.
The reconstruction will not only revamp the Misikhu-Brigadier stretch but also extend the road from Ndivisi-Lukusi to connect with the Lugulu-Kitale main road, improving access and boosting regional trade and travel. This development is expected to significantly ease transportation challenges for residents of the area.
Governor Kenneth Lusaka of Bungoma County, who was present at the event, voiced his approval of the move, emphasizing the frustration local residents have experienced due to the road’s deteriorating state. “The timely completion of this road will ease the daily struggles of our people and contribute to a better future for the region,” Governor Lusaka said. He also acknowledged the efforts of the county government in fulfilling its obligations, while pointing out that delays at the national level had prolonged the road’s completion.
President Ruto’s visit to the Western region is part of a broader tour aimed at overseeing the progress of key infrastructure projects and engaging with residents on development matters. Tomorrow, the president will visit Bungoma town to inspect ongoing projects, marking a continued commitment to the improvement of critical regional infrastructure.
