A modern laboratory has been opened at the Webuye Sub County Hospital by the Bungoma County government in conjunction with Moi University, at a tune of Kshs 10 million. Addressing Webuye residents, Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati said the laboratory will greatly benefit residents from Bungoma County and Kakamega County. He said his administration will release more funds to the health sector, as it’s an important docket that affects the lives of everyone, adding that MCAs should ensure the budgetary allocation for the sector is more.
The Governor lauded the relationship that has been there between the County government and Moi University, and that the County has benefited, especially Webuye residents, and pledged to further foster the relationship, saying the institution of higher learning also comes in handy in technical advice on health matters.
On his part, the Moi University Medicine Department representative Lukoye Atwoli said the partnership is meant to boost the health sector, noting that Bungoma residents have been moving to Nairobi and Eldoret to access services and lab tests on diseases like Diabetes and cancer, but now the services have moved closer. He advised residents to go for regular check ups , not only when they are sick, given that ailments like cancer are treated easier when detected earlier, adding that one shouldn’t fear getting two or three tests a year. He supported Governor Wangamati’s sentiments that more money should be pumped to the health sector. He reveled tat the lab will be used by students who are on attachment especially from Moi University, while Webuye Medical Superintendent Simon Kisaka said the lab will also assist the staff at Webuye Sub County hospital and some trainees.
