Residents of Mogoget village in Ngechek location in Nandi County are in grief following the deaths of two people, a middle-aged man and a primary school girl, who committed suicide in two separate incidences.
Speaking to West Media, area assistant chief Mr Raymond Ng’etich confirmed the sad news and raised concerns with how parents raise and guide their children.
Ng’etich said the first incident involved a middle-aged man, a boda boda rider who committed suicide in his house due to love issues. It’s alleged that his lover was snatched by another man.
In the second incident from the same village, which occurred a day after, the body of a standard eight candidate from Isami Academy was found hanging in the school dining hall. The reason why the student committed suicide is still unknown. The administrator said the girl’s body was noticed by two girls who were going to warm their tea and they reported the matter to the school administration.
He said it’s a sad predicament when young people commit suicide and he urged parents to be close to their children, and provide guidance and counselling, given that many may be going through challenges but are afraid to reveal.
