Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto has blamed Deputy County Commissioner for Endebess Peter Maina for lacking impartiality when handling cases concerning the residents living in the area, adding that he has failed to deliver required justice, including the land issue involving Chepchoina land.
Last week a resident constructed a house on the disputed land of Chepchoina and he claimed he was attacked by the residents of the area with bows and arrows. He recorded a statement at Endebess police station, and no action was taken. According to him, the police dismissed them saying they were the ones who had wronged the residents of the area by constructing a house on the disputed land without following set procedures.
The residents, however, sought the intervention of their MP Moroto who criticized police and deputy county commissioner.
The MP extended his criticism to Endebess OCPD for Endebess Wilfred Mogere, claiming he has double standards when it comes to handling the residents’ cases, claiming most cases which have been raised under his watch have been dismissed.
His sentiments were echoed by Keiyo ward MCA Emmanuel Waswa who appealed to the Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery to transfer some of the security officers who have worked in the county for more than three years, citing their reluctance to shore up security as the issue.
Waswa said the officers have instead ventured into business and forgotten their noble obligation of maintaining peace in their areas of jurisdiction with most residents being affected by the lack of security within their areas.
However, the Deputy County Commissioner for Kwanza and Endebess Sub Counties Peter Maina denied such claims and appealed to MP Samuel Moroto to discuss issues dealing with security in his office instead of making such claims to the media.
Maina said assault cases affecting the residents in the region are being handled by the police and it’s not his duty to interfere with investigations that are being handled by the police, adding that in the end justice will prevail. Maina labelled the allegations made against him as baseless and lacked facts, saying they’re just intended to tarnish his reputation.
He, however, appealed to residents to visit his office and other administrative offices to report any acts of insecurity within their regions so that action can be taken against the perpetrators.
