A ten year old girl is alleged to have been beaten to death by her mother who was punishing her in Vilongo village, Mautuma location, Lugari sub county.
Confirming the incident, Mautuma location chief Pamela Davava Kulali, said the deceased Melvin Awinja, a grade three pupil at Mahiga primary school was assaulted to death by the mother Mary Nekesa over undisclosed reasons.
She said on realizing the girl was unconscious, the mother who was punishing her decided to rush her to Mautuma Sub County hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Mrs. Kulali said upon examining the body it was established that it had fresh bruises all over the legs, hands and a swollen forehead.
She said she stopped the family from secretly taking the body to the mortuary and informed police officers from Mlimani police patrol base.
The body was later removed by officers from Turbo police station and taken to Kimbilio funeral home in the neighboring Uasin Gishu County for postmortem to establish the cause of her death as the officers launched investigations into the incident.
