A 55 year old mother together with her 24 year old son were rescued by police from an angry mob who were baying for their blood for allegedly assaulting to death a 20 year old man at Jerusalem village, Mautuma location Lugari Sub County.
Confirming the incident, acting Mautuma location chief Mrs. Pamela Davava Kulali said Mrs. Prisca Nanjala and his son Edward Nyongesa Soita were alleged to have combined to assault and killed Mr. Gregory Auko Nyagori.
She said Nyongesa and Auko different over unknown reason and started fighting before Nyongesa’s mother joined her son in assaulting the deceased and hit him with a jembe on the head.
“The two men were fighting before Nyongesa’s mother hit Auko on the head several times using a jembe,” said the administrator, adding that Nyongesa also hit him with a bludgeon leaving him unconscious.
She said the deceased was rescued by villagers and rushed to a nearby health facility but due to lack of equipment at the clinic, the deceased was referred to Lugari Sub County Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
After the incident the two tried to flee away but were overpowered by angry residents baying for their blood before they were rescued by police officer from Panpaper AP camp and transferred to Lumakanda police station, as the security agents launched investigation to unravel exact reason behind the murder.
Speaking separately Turbo OCS, Mr. Hillary Langat confirmed to www.westfm.co.ke that security agencies, including police and criminal investigation departments have launched investigations into circumstances leading to the death of Mr. Auko.
“For now we cannot provide any conclusive details on the tragedy,” said Langat, adding the accused will be presented before court once investigations into the tragic incident have been concluded.
But according to an eye witnesses who spoke to journalists on condition of anonymity, both the deceased and Nyongesa have been in protracted quarrels and fights over a lady from the same village.
“The two men have on many occasions quarreled and at times physically exchanged blows over a certain lady in the neighborhood,” disclosed the anonymous source, who claimed the deceased was in fact lured into the fateful fight.
“Auko was busy on their farm when the accused in company of the mother approached him under guise of striking some truce between the two rivals and the rest is history as you can see,” alleged the source.
Police officers removed the body from the deceased home where it had been taken before transferring it to Kimbilio Home mortuary in Kipkarren, Uasin Gishu County.
Following the incident, enraged villagers torched houses belonging to the accused, destroying property whose worth was yet to be established by the time of going to the press.
Elsewhere residents of Vilongo village, Mautuma location in Lugari Sub County were stunned after the body of middle aged man was found dangling on rope at a tree on the immediate neighbour’s farm.
Confirming the incident to the media, area acting chief Mrs. Pamela Kulali said villagers spotted the late Mr. Josphat Wabukhala, 38 years, hanging on the tree inside Mr. Philip Ndunda’s farm.
Though mystery surrounds the suicide, about three days ago the deceased was caught stealing maize from the neighbour’s grain store, according to Mrs. Kulali.
“But the theft incident was amicably solved by members of both families, who had then pardoned the deceased,” stated the local administrator, adding the family, relatives and community were yet to puzzle out the reason behind Wabukhala’s decision to take own life, especially at the said neighbour’s farm.
Police officers at Turbo station arrived at the scene and retrieved the body from the tree.
