Politics of Luhya unity took the centre stage at the funeral of retired nurse Mrs. Wilimina Musakali who was the wife to the former Ndivisi ward MCA John Musakali at Magemo village in Ndivisi ward Webuye East sub county. Kwanza Mp Hon. Fednand Wanyonyi said its important for the Mulembe community to stay together and work in unity as they gear towards 2022 general election, so that they can be able to have proper negotiation towads the leadership of the country.
Wanyonyi said Luhya community have been the laughing stock and punching bag to other communities and the only way to show some seriousness, it’s important for the community to stay put and chat their own political journey together and regain the lost glory and respect. This will make them be on a negotiation table either to make the government with other regions or the region makes the government with them.
” The division we are experiencing in Mulembe community is quite disturbing and we have remained a laughing stock and any leader outside our region who wants his political plate to be filled in order to make it to the state house fills it easily from our region and in return we get a raw deal because we are not united but we must chat another way as we near towards 2022″ said Wanyonyi.
However, Bungoma governor Wycliffe Wangamati had a contrary opinion and said its hard for the community to unite and get the leadership of the country when they’re not moving within their backyards to sell their political agenda and policies while others are moving across the entire country. He said at the moment the only serious presidential contestants are deputy president Dr. William Ruto and ODM leader Rt. Honorable Raila Amolo Odinga who he says are serious in their bid and are all over the country selling their manifesto.
“If you ask me today and its in public domain that deputy president and ODM leader are the only serous people who have announced their bid in the next years presidential bid and they are all over and they have put their communities together under their leadership, but our brothers in this region only rotate around the western counties and rarely participate in community events yet they want as to follow them: follow them to where?” Paused Wangamati. He said that leaders or a leader emerges and time will come when a leader will emerge from Mulembe land and will be embraced by everyone just like the late vice president Michael Wamalwa without the calls of unity. Wangamati claimed that the song has been sung for a long time and nothing has happened.
He urged ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and his counterpart Moses Masika Wetangula and any other interested person from luhya land, to move across and make serious networks in order to woo other communities to rally behind them. He urged them to stop pressers but go to the voters as that will make a more significant and serious impact. On development, Wangamati said he is on course to make sure that Webuye town becomes a municipality to benefit from world Bank monies and the municipality will take into an account all the seven wards of Webuye East and West constituencies. This will then provide more jobs to the youths and other residents directly and indirectly and also improve the infrastructures.
On his part, the former Mca John musakali said his wife was diagnosed with cancer stage four yet she was a medic and appealed to people to make sure that they go for cancer screening as early as possible, so that if it’s discovered early enough they can start medication and will be treated. He asked the government to do something as the cancer treatment is expensive and most people cannot afford as they live bellow the poverty line, therefore they are reluctant to go for screening because it will cause stigma due to expenses involved.
