It was a beacon of hope for the orphans, disabled and the aged in Mt. Elgon constituency after the parliamentary select committee on Labor, Gender and Social Affairs toured the region on a fact finding mission to establish issues affecting them and how they are to be sorted out.
Led by area MP John Bomet Serut the committee comprised of Trans Nzoia women rep Janet Nangabo, Buri MP Bonface Kinoti Gatobu and Nyaribari Masaba MP Mosomi Moindi who promised to look in to the issues raised to ensure the groups benefit from the funds as allocated.

Hon. Serut said in this year’s budget they allocated 17 billion shillings under the Inua Jamii program to ensure the several groups of people under the program fully benefit as the fund is meant to uplift their lives.
NHIF officers should register the beneficiaries under their program
He added that the officers in the ministry should also spear head for the NHIF officers to register the beneficiaries under their program so as to help them foot their bills once they are admitted to hospitals as most of them do not have enough money to cater for the hospital bills.
However he disclosed that as committee they will continue to advocate for the groups rights saying they have a right to access good services and education for their children and don’t have to be looked down upon in the society.

Trans Nzoia county women representative Janet Nangabo said the monthly 10,000 shillings for the elderly should be increased due to the rise in living standards.
She also promised to be on the fore front to have the government release the money in good time so as to enable the beneficiaries take care of their needs saying many of them go for months without accessing the funds yet they do not have a stable income that can sustain their livelihoods.
Shun divisive politics
On politics she called upon leaders from western region to shun divisive politics and plan on strategies that will have one of them ascend to the top seat of the country saying it is unfortunate that there is no unity among the Luhyia leaders.

Buri Mp Bonface Kinoti Gatobu urged the residents to take keen interest in education saying it will enable their children be recognized members of the society and be able to create a positive impact to the society.
He further assured the groups that as committee they are working round the clock to ensure their grievances are addressed saying they are aware they depend on the funds to sustain their livelihood.
Residents urged to support Serut
Nyaribari Masaba MP Moindi Mosomi called upon the Mt. Elgon residents to support the area Mp John Serut saying he is an intelligent man in his performance of parliamentary duties saying he has the capability helping his people.
One of the people living with disabilities Jacob Okiring called upon the committee to ensure the ministry releases the money to the groups on time saying many of them are going through tough times oscillating between their homes and the ministry’s offices to check on the money.
