Mt. Elgon KNUT against new proposed education syllabus
As a new curriculum is being developed to be adopted in the Kenyan education system to replace the 8-4-4 already a backlash has cropped up from the Kenya National Union of Teachers KNUT leadership in Mt. Elgon constituency which has expressed their unwillingness to support the new system.
In an exclusive interview the branch secretary Stephen Chemonges says with the current state of economy in the country Kenya is not ready to adopt a new system of education which he says will in the end consume a colossal amount of money at the expense of a tax payer.

Chemonges raised concern with the proposed education system to be adopted saying it has never been used in any country within the continent of Africa saying Kenyan children must not be used as testing kits for a system they are not sure will work efficiently.
“I agree that there are very many challenges facing the education sector under the current education system but the honest thing to do is to only adopt the important changes in the new system and incorporate them in to the current 8-4-4 system to improve the education standards in the country” he said
Education stakeholders after a meeting convened by the education cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i resolved that the new school curriculum being developed must be ready by October, next year ahead of the piloting phase in the year 2017.
Chemonges stated that KNEC is also facing massive challenges that included the several incidences of cheating experienced during the KCPE and KCSE examinations this year’s saying streamlining the council should be the government’s main agenda.
On the flipside Chemonges called upon TSC to perform its duties in an independent manner saying it is unfortunate that they have to be pushed so as to implement teachers’ issues that included paying of the September salary that was directed by the president.
However Chemonges took the opportunity to wish teachers’ a merry Christmas and a prosperous new year and reminded parents to set aside funds for school fees for their children and not to overspent during this festive season.
