ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to deal firmly with the corruption done in his government, in the wake of graft scandals, including the Arror and Kimwarer dams projects. Speaking in Nairobi, Mudavadi said an expansive landscape of corruption has been witnessed in state offices, and that public confidence in the government continues to be eroded. “Public confidence that the Jubilee government could continue to be trusted with public finances and other assets is heavily shaken,” he said. He pointed out that in the end any more major projects can’t be trusted.
The ANC leader said that the looting of public funds and resources has trickled down to the County governments. Citing the case of the dams, he said some of the people who are affected directly by the looting and diversion of projects, are the poorest, who depend on the natural resources. Mudavadi also criticized the proposed JKIA takeover by Kenya Airways, saying it’s a state-driven graft case. “This whole thing about the JKIA, the KAA, and KQ has a stench of corruption. The events around the so-called KQ and Kenya Airports Authority merger must be made public,” he said.
Following the Kenya Aviation Workers Union strike on Wednesday that affected services at JKIA and other airports countrywide, Mudavadi faulted the way the striking workers were brutally handled by KDF, “Workers’ rights are protected in the Constitution of Kenya. The world has witnessed peaceful strikers being brutalized.” He said the workers had already issued a strike notice but the authorities had ignored the same. The ANC party leader has urged President Kenyatta to freeze all further deals in public assets.
