Hasna Mudeizi is the new speaker of Vihiga County Assembly. The seat attracted 10 candidates, the former Speaker Dan Chitwa, Felix Otwoko, Wilson Samayo, the currently suspended Finance Chief Officer in the County Government of Vihiga, Wilberforce Ndula, County Legal Officer, Aggrey Musiega, Fredrick Maube, David Otiato, Allan Agala and Francis Ombima.
The hotly contested seat saw the elections being pushed to round two of voting where Mudeizi managed to gather 23 votes, followed by his closest rival Wilberforce Ndula who managed to get 15 votes.
Mudeizi said she is deeply honored to be elected as the second Speaker of Vihiga County Assembly saying that she is ready to work together with the elected leaders in the house to push for development gender for the County.
She added that she is going to be accessible to the members and perform her functions with dignity and honour for the people of Vihiga.
“Am going to be guided by virtue of good governance and I’ll create a legacy for social development in the County,” she said.
The position of the Deputy Speaker attracted 7 candidates lead by the youngest Member of County Assembly for Gisambai Ward in Hamisi Constituency Eric Odei, Moses Okole, Nixon Butia, Stephen Mugalitsi, Victor Ijaika, Vincent Atsiaya and Manoah Osore.
Nixon Butia managed to get the seat by gathering 21 votes beating his other competitors with a larger margin.
The Clerk of the County Assembly Ambaka Kilinga said they are organizing an induction session for the newly elected MCAs especially those that have made it for the first time in the house.
