Bumula residents have been urged to register in large numbers in the ongoing voter registration exercise across the country so that they may be able to participate in the coming general election. This was stated by Mwambu Mabonga who is vying for Bumula Member of Parliament seat in the 2017 general election who cited that Western Kenya has so far registered few voters compared to other counties in the country.
“When you compare registered voters in Western Kenya and those registered in one county from Central Kenya you realize that there is a wide gap whereby in Western registered voters are still below even the IEBC’s target, this shows that there is a problem somewhere and the problem is ourselves,” he said.
He furthered his sentiments that he has officially resigned from his duties and promised to move to the grassroots for voter registration mobilization.
Mwambu has assured Bumula residents that he will move house per house to mobilize voters to register so that they can choose leaders who can work for them and safeguard their resources.
“Therefore, that is why I have resigned to have all the time to come on the ground and start moving from one house to the other to ensure that every person who has a national identification card registers as a voter,” he added.
He, however, reminded Bumula residents that they have a duty to register as voters so that they can participate in the elections.
“It is only through voter registration that you will be able to vote wisely and get leaders who can manage your resources and avoid those leaders who love propaganda and those who misuse your resources for their own benefit,” reiterated Mwambu.
