Family, friends and residents of Kapenguria in West Pokot today paid tribute to Mzee Kariwo Lwatamoi Riamalinga as he was laid to rest at his home in Kapkoris village in Kapenguria,West Pokot County.
Mzee Kariwo (93) died on 12th of December after health complications due to old age. He was born in 1928 in Kariamakitong village in Mnagei ward.
The send off burial ceremony that was attended by hundreds of residents was presided over by Catholic Church led by Father Walter Orengo of Kapenguria parish.
Mourners eulogized the late as a pillar of the family and a kind man who gave directions and advice to many.
The Pokot Council of leaders said the community had lost a great man who had a great history of the community.
The Late Mzee Kariwo was recruited to Kenya Police Service in 1948 and was trained at Kijango Police training college and later posted to Mombasa police station. While in Mombasa he got a chance to train as a driver which he later left police and joined Judiciary as a driver.
The latter was attached to the judge of the East Africa Court of Appeal from 1950-1960 his jurisdiction was between Nairobi,Kampala and Dar-es-salaam.
Several leaders have been sending tributes since his demise saying the community had lost a great man who helped many to greatness.
Former Governor Simon Kachapin in his condolence said the late was a charismatic man who valued discipline, integrity and high social values.
“This is a man with a great history of our time.The Community has lost a great man who gave us not only advice but also directions on key matters affecting the community and development,” Said Kachapin.
Other leaders who eulogized Mzee Kariwo include Governor Prof John Lonyangapuo, Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto, Nominated MCA Elijah Kaseuseu among others.
West Media management eulogized the late as a great man who was for many years a business partner.

The late Mzee Kariwo was blessed with over 100 grandchildren, over 50 great grandchildren and more than 20 great-great grandchildren.
