Nairobi County assembly speaker Benson Mutura has been sworn in as the County’s interim Governor, after Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko was impeached last week. Mutura will hold the position for 60 days, before an election to elect another Governor is held. The former Makadara MP took the oath of office on Monday morning.
His swearing in, which had earlier been planned for last week Friday was postponed. The Senate on Thursday put the final nail in Sonko’s coffin, by upholding his ouster. Charges that led to his impeachment according to Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka were gross violation of the Constitution, abuse of office, gross misconduct and crimes under national law.
