Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi ‘Sonko’ has been urged by the Nairobi Women Caucus to nominate a woman as Nairobi Deputy Governor. Led by their chair Dinah Agai lauded the decision to allow Governors to nominate their Deputies when the seat becomes vacant, adding that Governor Sonko has a good track record when it comes to working with women, “We are alive to the fact that our Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has a long history of working well with women on socio-economic issues,” she said.
She noted that nominating a woman Deputy Governor would set the right precedence towards narrowing the gender gap and will also be a significant step towards embracing gender diversity, “It will improve collaboration, cultivating innovation and creating a much more successful and inclusive city,” she said.
