The Naivasha Constituency Development Fund today donated Sh1 million to the Judiciary for the improvement of infrastructure at Naivasha Law Courts.
The cheque was presented to Chief Justice Willy Mutunga by the CDF Committee members led by area MP John Kihagi.
Present were the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, Anne Amadi, the Naivasha Senior Resident Magistrate, Esther Kimilu and CDF Chairman Joseph Magu.
The donation was among pledges made by leaders in various counties to support construction of courts in their areas when Dr Mutunga visited Nakuru County and other counties in the Rift Valley, Western and Nyanza regions early this year.
Mr. Kihagi said the committee set aside the money as part of efforts to support the Judiciary to deliver on its mandate.
He said the recent establishment of a High Court station in the area naivasha law courtshad brought court services closer to the people.
The legislator asked the CJ to establish an Environment and Land Court (ELC) in Naivasha to ease pressure on Nakuru Law Courts.
He said that quick resolution of land matters in the area was necessary to facilitate development.
On his part, the CJ said that the money will go a long way towards improving court services in the area. Dr Mutunga, however, urged communities to consider alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to ease pressure on courts and promote harmony in the community.
