The County Assembly of Nandi has adopted a motion from the ad hoc committee report on investigation of theft and loss of public property in the Education and Transport departments. The motion was moved by Emmanuel Mengech who is the MCA for Olessos ward.
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang had suspended County officials, including County Executive Committee members after the theft of government property in May. An ad hoc committee was then formed by the Governor to look into the matter, with calls for some officials to be dismissed already existent.
However, the Nandi County Assembly later unanimously selected a nine-member committee to look into the graft allegations at the County, focusing mainly on the education and transport departments. The house agreed for the formation of the ad hoc committee without any single opposition from the members, despite the fact that one had already been formed.
The ad hoc committee has recommended that Governor Sang relieves Lands CEC Stanley Baliach, Education CEC Valentine Chumo for different reasons including abuse of office, incompetence among others. The committee also recommended the reinstatement of Transport CEC Hillary Koech among other officials.
