The County Assembly of Nandi has questioned the use of Kshs 218 million World Bank project funds in Nandi, given the lack of records and MCAs have demanded answers from the County’s finance department. The Assembly has formed an Ad hoc committee chaired by Tinderet MCA Kipkurui Chepkwony to probe the matter and the committee summoned the Finance CEC Alfred Lagat and Kapsabet municipality town manager Mr David Sum to shed light on the use of Kshs 41 million allocated in the 2018/2019 financial year. Also, to shed light on another Kshs 177 million which was transferred to a private account last year with the knowledge of the County finance department which has questioned its effectiveness.
Lagat who appeared before the committee said the Kshs 41 million wasn’t used for projects instead it was utilized to cater for the employment of more County employees and capacity building but he couldn’t account for the money as there was no records indicating utilization. He said that his docket under his leadership has never been involved in any misappropriation of funds and that the money has been used wisely for the intended purposes urging those with doubts to launch their grievances using the right channels. On the other hand David Sum said all the development projects meant to happen are ongoing and in progress giving an example of the Namgoi-Kapsabet footpaths.
