The County Assembly of Nandi has failed to conduct the reading of the County’s budget estimates for the financial year 2020/2021 in protest over the delay by the County government to pay workers. The adjournment motion was moved by Nandi hills MCA Gideon Koech and seconded by nominated MCA Terry Maiyo who said that the presentation of the budget should be conducted only after the workers in the County have been paid their dues.
The County assembly speaker Joshua Kiptoo had to adjourn the sitting and summoned Nandi Finance CEC Alfred Lagat to appear before the assembly on Thursday to explain why May salaries haven’t been paid. “We want to know why salaries have not been paid until now yet the treasury has released the money,” the MCAs demanded.
