Members of the County government of Nandi audit committee led by the chairperson Mr. Matthew Maiyo have resigned citing difficulties in executing their mandate due to a lack of support from the County government. In the resignation letter fowarded to the County secretary Mr. Francis Sang, the audit committee cited their exit was unanimously agreed upon by the members and passed the resolutions to end engagement with the County government of Nandi effective from 6th October 2020.
The committee said there was no good will to operationalize it and by extension the internal audit committee observed that it was no longer tenable to carry out their mandate as provided for by the PFM Act 2005. The committee further stated that it became concerned of the insufficient resourcing of the internal audit function and the audit committee which was contrary to the provision of the PFM regulations of 2015. The letter also stated that the audit committee brought the concern to the Finance CEC Alfred Lagat but there was no response, even after reaching out on two more instances. They also sought an audience with the Governor Stephen Sang to no avail.
The County secretary in his response to the resignation said it is evident that the committee failed to get its footing in executing their mandate and the reasons ranges from its failure to come up with a work plan. He said the Governer has accepted their resignation and has asked the County public service board to immediately start the recruitment process for a new audit committee.
