The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Nandi County Branch has managed to register a total of 32,159 voters in the just concluded mass voter registration exercise missing to hit the target of 79,000.
Speaking with journalists in her office, Nandi IEBC Elections Coordinator Mrs. Catherine Bulinda cited that the Commission didn’t hit the target as the voter registration conducted is below 50% thus there is need for people to understand that voting in any elections is their constitutional democratic right and should understand that.
Bulinda revealed that by Tuesday 2nd October, the day to end mass voter registration, Nandi experienced high turnout of voters and as a Commission they managed to register a total of 1,762 voters while on 3rd October registered a total of 2,200 voters respectively.
The IEBC Coordinator confirmed that there was minimal transfers but were controlled citing that this transfers were from the borders especially in Vihiga border.
She affirmed that as a Commission, they are still continuing with the voter registration exercise as per the court ruling as they await any further communication if there will be any changes thus requested the public to continue turning out in large numbers for the exercise.
“As per the court ruling in Eldoret, we as a Commission in Nandi are still continuing with the registration as we wait for any further communications.” She added.
The mass voter registration exercise per sub-county as of 3rd October, 2021 was as follows; Aldai-6,408, Mosop-6,998, Nandihills-4,982, Tindiret-4,018, Emgwen-4,371, Chesumei-5,112 respectively.
