Health workers in Nandi County have downed their tools owing to unpaid May salaries and Covid-19 allowances. Led by the Kenya National Union of Nurses officials from Nandi, Jane Chelimo(Secretary) and Paul Sang(chairman), they said the strike, which commences today is based on a number of issues apart from May salaries, which include payment of promotion arrears, health insurance, remittance of statutory deductions, payment of Covid-19 allowances among others.
They said they have not received any feedback despite holding a consultative meeting with the KUCO, KNUN on 16th June this year. They faulted the tough working environment they are in and the selective promotions, saying letters should be issued to all staff deserving promotions. thus demands for letters to be issued to all staffs who deserve and are due for promotions. They further pointed out that delayed pay has put a strain on their lives, given that they depend on their earnings.
Nandi County employees have not received their May salaries, and the leadership of Governor Stephen Sang has come under more criticism as a result.
