Over 2,000 students from Nandi County will benefit from the County bursaries, issued at ward level, and beneficiaries have been urged to visit the ward offices to receive cheques. Speaking during the official launch and disbursement of the bursary cheques to needy students in secondary schools, vocational training centres and special needs centres at Kapkoimur/Surungai ward, Nandi Governor Stephen Sang affirmed that this project is among his transformational agendas, to ensure students fulfil their career dreams.
Governor Sang said the identification of bursary beneficiaries through the Education docket has been moved to the ward level to promote transparency, “My government is keen to ensure education standards are uplifted in learning institutions across the region,” he said.
Nandi County government has set aside a total of Kshs 60 million for bursaries in the financial year 2018/2019. However, residents in the County have been seeking answers from the County administration concerning the misappropriation of bursary funds amounting to Kshs 13 million in the financial year 2017/2018.
