Several different companies countrywide have developed an interest in establishing investment spots in Nandi in the Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) which is set to be developed in Chemase area. The project has also attracted several export companies who want to invest.
The zone will be set up in a three-acre piece of land in Chemase/Chemelil ward and will be of great importance to residents and the neighbouring Counties who will get an opportunity to seek employment.
Meru Greens is one of the export companies that is set to establish its spot in Nandi with the EPZ and has already commenced the consultations with farmers who intend to invest in the production of horticultural products eg passion fruits, french beans and avocados.
The Meru Greens CEO who spoke during the signing of the MoU between the Nandi County government and the EPZ officials cited that there are prepared international export markets for such products which will benefit farmers by improving their livelihoods.
More than 15,000 farmers across Nandi are set to benefit directly from these agro-processing industries which have direct export markets for their produce.
