The County government of Nandi through its Ministry of Lands has come out to defend itself on allegations that authorities want to sell a portion of Kapsabet showground land.
The Lands CEC Dr. Philemon Bureti while speaking to the press, refuted the claims that the County administration is set to sell an acre, noting that it’s a public utility land. He said the claims are null and void and that the government is working on refurbishing the showground. He said that there was a small misunderstanding between the public and the issue has been sorted out, adding that residents shouldn’t worry that the land may be sold.
Last week Kapsabet and Chemundu MCAs led residents to pull down a fence that was being constructed at the site, citing a scheme to grab a parcel of land and threatened to lead demos if the County government doesn’t come out clearly on the issue. It was alleged that a private developer had been allotted one acre of the Kapsabet showground to construct a chicken slaughter house without the consent of the authorities.
