The County government of Nandi through the Ministry of Agriculture has imposed a quarantine on all the livestock in the County following an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).
The Agriculture Ministry has confirmed the outbreak of the disease in Chesumei, Emgwen, Aldai and Mosop sub counties. Residents of the highlighted sub counties have been urged to comply and adhere to the County government’s notice. Foot and Mouth Disease is a contagious disease affecting cattle and swine, and also sheep and goats.
The notice in Nandi comes after a similar notice was issued in neighbouring Uasin Gishu County. The Uasin Gishu administration noted that the FMD outbreak was in Turbo, Moiben, Soy and in parts of Kesses and Kaseret sub county. The quarantine was imposed on livestock getting in and out of the County.
