The County government of Nandi is working with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to ensure victims of police brutality in the region get justice. Nandi Governor Stephen Sang who hosted IPOA officials led by commissioners Praxedes Tororey and Dr Jimmy Mwithi said they had a lengthy discussion with the commissioners on the possible ways of compensating the victims of police brutality and ensuring justice prevails.
He added that people in Nandi have suffered a lot in the hands of the police citing that victims of police brutality in Nandi include the 3 killed in Olessos and 2 killed along the Nandi-Kakamega border. The Governor also revealed he has identified areas of collaboration with IPOA in a bid to enhance community policing and to attain a good working relationship between the public and the police.
He insisted that cases of police abusing civilians have been on the rise across Kenya and the government and various authorities should act swiftly to bring to a halt the menace and ensure justice prevails for the victims.
