The County government of Nandi has applied for a loan from Equity Bank in order to pay County staff salaries. The County Finance officer Mr Meshack Malakwen, who appeared before the county Assembly of Nandi, said the County is broke and is running short of funds to maintain service delivery following the revenue allocation stalemate at the Senate. He said the County administration has been left with no other choice.
He said County staff have not been paid their salaries, running to four months now due to the stalemate and they had to act fast to avoid a strike of more than 6,000 workers.
The county assembly of Nandi wanted to know why the county is not paying its workers’ salaries on time, and the finance officer revealed that it is due to the delays by the National treasury to release the money each financial year and as a government are working around the clock to fix the problem once and for all.
