The County government of Nandi will seek justice for the Talai and Nandi communities over the colonial period injustices meted on them. Many of the community members lost their lives and property. In a meeting with a delegation from the Talai community, Nandi Governor Stephen Sang said his administration is keen on ensuring justice prevails adding that when he was a Senator, he presented a petition for more than 10,000 people living in Kapsisiywo area whose fundamental rights were violated during the colonial era.
He said that the British government should compensate these people over the alleged torture during the colonial era and as a County government, they are in process of seeking justice through the engagement of international lawyers. Former Nandi Governor Cleophas Lagat, had plans to sue the British government over the same issue but he was ousted in the 2017 general elections, and the push for the community’s compensation, justice ceased.
The delegation also discussed important matters surrounding development and they urged the Governor to ensure development progress in the region is achieved before the next general elections citing the state of roads in the County is wanting.
