Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has asked the National government to channel money that meant for the referendum to finance education of needy students in the country.
Sang expressed his fears on majority of parents who may not be able to take their children to secondary schools due to the economic impact struck by the Covid-19 pandemic which has left Kenyans totally poor struggling to make their ends meet.
He said that at the moment, referendum is not a priority to Kenyans as he added that the money to be used in the exercise should be channeled to facilitate the education for needy students.
He was addressing journalists in his office where he hosted Abiud Kipkurui one of the top pupil in 2020 KCPE from Olessos Hills Adventist school, who was ranked seventh Nationally.
Kipkurui is the son of a squatter who was evicted a decade ago from Serengonik forest and he managed to join primary school courtesy of a well wisher who supported him from class one to class eight.
Kipkurui who aspires to become a surgeon in future has beaten all odds to become the best student despite his poor background.
The Governor has promised to facilitate his secondary school education and also his university studies saying he has been doing that since he was a Senator and he will continue doing so.
After the release of KCPE results by the Education CS Prof. George Magoha, and Abiud’s father upon realizing that his son was among the top performers, he burst into tears saying that he had no money to pay school fees for his son to continue with his education as urged the government and well wishers to come to his aid, and he can now smile after Nandi Governor has offered to support his son further his education.
