Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has revealed he is spearheading talks through the Council of Governors to push for employment of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers by the Teachers Service Commission. Sang said in order to achieve quality education and a good, standard, management of education in the country, ECDE teachers should be employed and managed from a central point.
He added that for a perfect transition of learners from pre-primary, primary, secondary and university to be achieved, the Teachers Service Commission should employ and take over supervision of all teachers including ECDE teachers as they are also professionals in the teaching fraternity.
The Nandi Governor was addressing a National Dialogue stakeholders forum on education quality at Kapsabet Boys Primary School where he urged the national government to mull over the matter in the education sector so that the County governments can concentrate on infrastructure and other issues.
He said the County of Nandi has around 640 ECDE centres with one teacher per centre employed by the County on a contract basis although the requirement stipulates there should be two per centre. He added that the government should chip in and help to solve issues revolving around the remuneration of the ECDE teachers given that some hold weighty education credentials but earn as little as Kshs 10,000.
