Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has affirmed that his administration is working around the clock to ensure that the huge wage bill facing the County is cut down citing a program that is ongoing to deal with the issue once and for all.
Addressing the County Assembly during the official opening of the Assembly to kick start its’ sessions since the election of the Speaker had been accomplished, Sang revealed that there is a program that is currently ongoing to deal with the huge wage bill.
He added that he has instituted actions targeted towards rationalization of human resources as this will go a long way in ensuring a proper, organized and motivated staff.
In his speech, the Governor mentioned that the Couny key pressing issues which include addressing the unsustainable wage bill and increasing pending bills among other issues like to stabilize incomes for farmers, bursary allocation increase and increasing demand for health services should be addressed through wage bill.
“We are continuing our plan and strategy to completely offset both the historical and current pending bills as a way of relieving the financial pressure and obligations currently faced by our contractors and suppliers.” He added.
Already the County has laid off over seven hundred contracted employees and reduced the salaries of at least six hundred workers in a bid to work on the wage bill cut.
The Governor also highlighted what his administration achieved during his first tenure in all the sectors including the health sector which has seen upgrading of significant number of health facilities across the County.
He moreover, highlighted what his administration has planned to do in the second tenure including completing of stalled projects like mother and child Hospital, Eliud Kipchoge training camp, coffee factory etc.
