The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Nandi branch secretary Amos Ng’etich has called off the nurses strike in the region terming it as insecure.
While giving a press briefing at his office in Kapsabet Referral Hospital, Ng’etich said that he decided to call off the strike as it was insecure and that the Chief Officer for Health Dr Daniel Kemboi had written to nurses instructing them to report to work by Friday 16th June 2017 and those who fail to do so will face the sack.
He said patients shouldn’t suffer because of the wrangles between the KNUN officials and the Ministry of Health together with the County Public Service Board, hinting that the strike has taken a political angle.
He said that the nurses should go to back work and that dialogue should be embraced to solve the matter given that the Council of Governors directed every County administration to handle their nurses.
Some days earlier, the Kenya National Union of Nurses Chairman Mr John Bii had disowned the legitimacy of the ongoing strike saying it was not legally protected but the strike went on as planned paralysing health services in public health centers and hospitals across the country.
