Police officers in Nandi Central have arrested two suspected illicit brew peddlers after carrying out a raid and manhunt within Kapsabet town and its environs. The suspects, who are currently in police custody, were arrested following a tip-off by residents who were concerned by the reemergence of illicit liqour in the area. They were nabbed with fourteen cartons of illicit liquor.
Speaking to the press at Kapsabet police station after the raid, Nandi County Alcoholic Drinks and Control Board Director Mr. Sammy Keter said the move to end the illicit brew menace in Nandi is being driven through cooperation between different vigilance and security teams. He revealed the teams involved include KRA, NACADA, the security forces in partnership with his office, saying they won’t relent until the menace is fully dealt with.
He confirmed that the liquor is packed in sachets and sneaked into Nandi by cartels operating from Uganda, and he urged security officers to be more vigilant as a result.
Since the commencement of the crackdown under Governor Stephen Sang, more than fifty suspects have been arrested and charged in Court.
