2015 New York City Marathon champion Stanley Biwott has unveiled a talent development camp equipped with modern facilities in Kapsabet, Nandi county.
The facility which is dubbed Stanley Biwott and DR Rosa Associates situated at East View Emgwen constituency in Nandi county has a physiotherapy and a gym respectively and it can accommodate up to thirty athletes.
Speaking to West Media during the official opening of the facility, Biwott said he thought it wise to put up such a facility in order to assist athletes from less privileged backgrounds to exploit their talents. He added that many upcoming athletes in the County cannot afford to support themselves.
The training camp offers accommodation to the athletes while the Nike Company offers food and sports kits. The facility is open to athletes from all over the country.
Initially, the County had only one training camp that wasn’t fully equipped and the availability of the modern facility at the moment is a vital improvement.
Invited guests present at the commissioning of the facility included the National AK Chair Jack Tuwei, Nandi AK Chair Abraham Mutai and the County’s Chief Executive Officer for Ministry of Sports, Youth and Gender Patrick Sang among others.
Nandi county is famed for its athletics talent and has a total of 738 upcoming athletes and more than 100 elite athletes who train at Iten, Chepkoilel and Nandi hills.
